Why Rotary is Faster

Linear machines pick a bag, fill it, seal it, then stop while the next bag indexes into position. Each stop and start adds time to the cycle. Rotary machines mount bags on a continuously rotating carousel. Each bag moves through stations without stopping. Filling happens while the carousel turns. The result is higher throughput with smoother product handling.

Twenty Four Station Layout

The carousel holds twenty four pouch grippers evenly spaced around the circumference. As the carousel rotates, each gripper passes through the following stations. Station one is pouch pick and open. Station two is pouch inspection with light sensor. Station three is product fill one. Station four is product fill two for multi component products. Station five is gas flush for oxygen sensitive products. Station six is zipper seal if equipped. Station seven is top seal. Station eight is cooling. Station nine is discharge. Stations ten through twenty four are return positions.

Speed Achievable

Doypack stand up pouches run at eighty to one hundred twenty pouches per minute on this system. Flat pouches run at one hundred to one hundred fifty pouches per minute. The limiting factor is typically the filling system, not the bag handling. Multi-head weighers keep pace at these speeds.

Changeover on a Rotary Machine

Changeover on a rotary machine requires more time than on a linear machine because multiple grippers must be adjusted. Standard changeover takes forty five to sixty minutes. Our servo driven changeover option reduces this to twelve minutes. Servo motors adjust gripper width, fill height, and seal position automatically while the operator loads the next bag style.

Construction Quality

The rotary carousel is machined from a single aluminum casting for perfect balance at high speeds. Grippers are spring loaded to maintain constant bag tension regardless of bag size. The main drive uses a cam follower mechanism rather than pneumatics for consistent motion.
